Kyle Rittenhouse had a bright future ahead of him. A 2nd Amendment hero and the envy of junior medics everywhere, Rittenhouse embodied what it’s like to be a barely-legal adult whose life revolved around a single incident. He was famous, and on his way to wealthy.

That all ended when a horrifying snowboarding accident took Rittenhouse from the world, leaving him brain-dead and comatose. Doctors say the chances he’ll ever come out of it are about 7 billion to one since brain-dead isn’t something humans can cure. His mother, Wendy Rittenhouse, said she’d keep him on life support as long as his body can remain alive while she prays for a miracle. Former Florida Governor and current US Senator Rick Scott said he’d pay for the medical expenses.

The family has asked for privacy during this terrible time.

The accident itself was very unfortunate. Kyle was headed down the mountain at his top speed when a pair of girls sped by laughing at him. He chased them down and was beating one of them up when the other pushed him off the cliff that sits at the edge of most ski slopes.

That was nearly two years before the incident in Kenosha. Luckily, Kyle’s lawyers never had to point out that he was brain-dead all along. The judge made sure of that. So remember, when you see Kyle tweeting bible passages or making a fool of himself in general, he’s been gone a long time.
